NORWEGIAN PROGRAMME FOR CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT IN HIGHER EDUCATION AND RESEARCH FOR DEVELOPMENT (NORHED II)
Machakos University, in partnership with University of Bergen (Department of Global public health and primary care), Norwegian University of Life Sciences and Norwegian University of Science and Technology won grant to implement Water ESSENCE Africa whose theme is creating synergy to meet the global challenges.
Other collaborators include Addis Ababa University(www.uu.edu.et.), University of Ghana(https://www.ug.edu.gh/), University for Development studies(https://uds.edu.gh/), University of Nairobi (https://www.uonbi.ac.ke/), University of Rwanda (https://ur.ac.rw/), University of Juba (https://uoj.edu.ss/) and Makerere University(https://www.mak.ac.ug/). The project runs for six years (2021-2026) at a budget line of KES 15590924.7687514 (NOK 1401000.49972)
The main project objectives are capacity building for both the University and staff and Curriculum development with a bias in water related program. In order to achieve this the project will seek to fund acquisition of critical water infrastructure and offer five masters and two PhD scholarships to members of staff. By the end of the project, Machakos University is expected to have developed a water related program and have it accredited by the relevant authorities.
Machakos University is represented by Eng. Mwalimu K. Musau from Building and Civil Engineering Department as the coordinator and has since formed a steering committee with Dr. Benjamin Kikwai (School of Pure and Applied Sciences) as the secretary, CPA Teresia Mutunga (Finance department) as the accountant, Ms. Caroline Athman as the assistant secretary, Dr. George Waswa and Mr. Michael Githinji as a resource persons. The three are from Building and Civil Engineering department.
